Spread or Page what do you call it?

Why do you call the layouts 'spreads'? I'm confused. Is it a page? Two pages?

A spread is the full layout. We print in spreads, we bind in spreads, so that's why we call it that. When you are designing your VisionArt Book, you have a complete canvas to work with, not just a left side and then a right side.

Below is a full spread since there is no gutter you need to think spread.

If you think in terms of a book, a page would have its own individual page number. An open book would show a spread of left and right hand pages traveling from the left border, continuing across the gutter at the spine and ending at the opposite border. Just remember that a page has its own page number and a spread would have two pages.

That makes sense now.

But now that raises the question: What is the MINIMUM and MAXIMUM amount of 'spreads' that can be in a book? Since a spread is 2 pages would it have to be an EVEN number?

Think about spreads and not pages. Say you are designing a 10x10 square book; design the spreads (canvas) 20 inches wide by 10 inches high - that is a spread. Yes it has two sides on it, but it is only one piece of paper that is 20x10 inches.

The smallest size book we charge you for is 15 spreads. We are comfortable with about 40 spreads in a book. You can make it any amount you want, it does not have to be an even number.

Again, think spreads and not pages.

Here is another sample book spread. Since there is no interuption in the spread you can have one image across both side.
